The History of IN Fort Wayne Community Newspapers

Founded 1971

The IN Fort Wayne Community Newspapers were founded in 1971 by Bill Fahlsing, initially as The Times Group, Inc. The five community newspapers in Allen County, Indiana were acquired by KPC Media Group, Inc. as of December 31, 2006. Mr. Fahlsing initially remained as publisher and consultant for the new KPC newspaper division.

At the time of the 2006 acquisition, the 35-year old company was located at 826 Ewing St, Fort Wayne, and was renamed Times Community Publications. The five direct-mail monthly free-circulation newspapers, the publications were delivered to homes and businesses in Allen County, as they are today.

At the time, The Times Community publications were titled Aboite & About, serving southwest Allen County and Roanoke; Dupont Valley Times, distributed in northern Fort Wayne and northwest Allen County; East Allen Times, delivered in New Haven and eastern Allen County; George Town Times and St. Joe Times, serving different areas of eastern Fort Wayne and Allen County.

With the later acquisition of The Northwest New, serving the growing Huntertown area, and one of the newspapers of record of Allen County, KPC Media Group reorganized the zones of the publications, and in May 2019, converted each edition to a paid, community publication. We expanded our commitment to quality local news; and began to report local news daily at www.INFortWayne.com, along with all five print editions being mailed once a week to subscribers and prospective subscribers.

Today, the five PRINT editions are The Aboite News; The Dupont Valley News; The New Haven News; The Leo-Cedarville News; and The Northwest News, mailed to more than 50,000 households in Allen County during the month – more than twice the print reach of any other print daily or weekly newspaper in Allen County.

In 2019, additional Editors were added to cover local government and community news, and a Managing Editor was named to oversee the high school sports coverage for our high schools in each Township, as well as Allen County’s leading private schools.

The IN Fort Wayne Community Newspapers operate from offices on Goshen Rd. in Fort Wayne.

KPC Media Group is the largest print and digital media company in Northeast Indiana, based on AAM audits and USPS Statements of Ownership, with 15 daily and weekly newspapers and news websites in the six metro counties of Allen, Whitley, DeKalb, Noble, LaGrange and Steuben Counties.
