FORT WAYNE — Three Carroll wrestlers will make the trip to Indianapolis for the state finals this weekend. Chargers Evan Ulrick (31-11), Matt Lepper (38-3) and Reeve Muncie (38-3) each punched their tickets during Saturday’s New Haven semi-state at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
Ulrick placed second at 145 pounds Saturday, falling to Adams Central’s Alex Currie by 4-0 decision in the championship round. Ulrick started the afternoon with an 8-0 major-decision win over East Noble’s Garner Owens (8-8) before defeating Eastern’s Tallan Morrisett (27-4) by 7-5 decision in the ticket round. Ulrick defeated Southern Wells’ William Fiechter (41-2) by 6-4 decision in the semifinals.
Lepper punched his state ticket with a 3-1 win over NorthWood’s Jaden Miller (29-7) in the second round at 195 before falling to Bellmont’s Caden Friedt (36-4) in the semifinals. Lepper started the day with a pin against Winchester’s Alex Franklin, and finished competition with a 5-3 win over Northridge’s Ibrahim Khaoucha (38-6) in consolation.
Muncie made it to Saturday’s 285-pound championship with a 1-minute, 16-second pin over Peru’s Quinten Brousseau (23-13); a 14-5 major-decision win over NorthWood’s Blake Herr (25-7) and a 3-1 win over Western’s Braydon Erb (42-3). He finished second behind Monroe Central’s Logan Swallow (44-0) by 6-2 decision.
