Goodine eighth at state gymnastics finals
Carroll senior Julia Goodine placed eighth in all-around competition during Saturday’s IHSAA Gymnastics State Finals at Ball State University.
Goodine scored 37.575 overall, placing fifth on the balance beam (9.475), ninth on the uneven bars (9.450), ninth in the floor exercise (9.300) and 17th on the vault (9.350).
Junior Bella Hoogland placed 25th on the floor with an 8.975.
Charger wrestlers defeat Bobcats
Maple Creek Middle School’s wrestlers dropped their match against Carroll Middle School on March 4.
Despite winning eight out of 13 matches, an 18-point forfeit deficit proved to be too much to overcome. The Bobcats ultimately lost 42-31. Winning for the Bobcats were Teagan McKinney, Kael Hunter, Tevor Noble, Jack Mitchell, Kaleb Blackburn, Ricky Stroud, Charles McCreary and Alicia DeWitt.
In JV action, the Bobcats came away with 21-8 victory. Winning for Maple Creek were Kaleb Blackburn, Ricky Stroud, Will Jeffries and Lucas Noble.
Maple Creek went on to fall to Indian Springs 54-24 on March 9. After a fast start, the young Bobcats faltered against the veteran Indian Springs squad. Winning for the Bobcats were Taegan McKinney, Luke Gallmeier, Will Jeffries, Lucas Noble and Alicia DeWitt.
The JV grapplers won their match 30-15. Winning for the Bobcats were Luke Gallmeier, Kael Hunter, Eli Ward, Kaleb Blackburn, Noah Bowser and Will Jeffries.
MCMS swimmers defeat East Noble, Woodside
The Maple Creek Middle School girls swim and dive team defeated both Woodside and East Noble on March 4 to improve to 6-1. The boys team defeated East Noble but came up short against Woodside, dropping to 5-2.
The girls were led in diving by a third-place finish from Ellie Castleman and a fourth-place finish from Elyse Francher-Donald. In swimming, the girls were led by first-place finishes from Kate Fetters in the 100 IM, Naomi Bowland in the 50 free, Avery Ziembo in the 50 fly, Jordyn Glassley in the 100 free, Ella Silvey in the 100 backstroke and Katie Williams in the 100 breaststroke.
The boys were led by first-place finishes from Kelan Baumert in the 100 free and Hayden Hoover in the 100 backstroke.
Bobcat swimmers fall in season finale
Maple Creek Middle School’s boys and girls swim and dive teams finished their seasons with losses to Woodside on March 9. The girls team fell 162-148 while the boys fell 196-88.
The girls team was led in diving by Ellie Castleman with a second-place finish, Kennadie Liegl with a third-place finish and Elyse Francher-Donald finishing fourth overall. In swimming, the girls were led by first-place finishes from Catherine Greenlee in the 50 free, Jordyn Glassley in the 50 fly and Kate Fetters in the 100 free.
The boys were led in swimming by a second-place finish from Hayden Hoover in the 50 free and third-place finishes from Hayden Hoover in the 100 free, Will Greenlee in the 50 fly, and Jonah Barranda in the 50 free and 400 free.
The Maple Creek girls were scheduled to compete for a conference championship on Monday at the NACS Natatorium. The boys conference final was scheduled for Tuesday.
