The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo’s 42nd annual Wild Zoo Halloween continues weekends through October.
Remaining dates are Oct. 16-17, 23-24 and 30-31 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wild Zoo Halloween is free with paid zoo admission.
The event features zoo animals, family fun and tasty treats that are just right for pint-sized guests.
Highlights of the upcoming weekends include:
Saturday, Oct. 16. Pumpkin Day. Watch favorite zoo animals “stomp and chomp” on pumpkin treats. Guess the weight of the giant pumpkin. Watch pumpkin carving demos in front of Monkey Island.
Sunday, Oct.17. Truck & Tractor Day, supplied by Kenn-Feld John Deere
Saturday, Oct. 23. Princess & Superhero Day
Sunday, Oct. 24. Free Endangered Species Carousel Rides. Sponsored by Steel Dynamics Inc.
Saturday, Oct. 30. Galactic Trooper Day
Sunday, Oct. 31. Free Z.O.&O. Railroad Rides. Sponsored by Steel Dynamics Inc.
Wild Zoo Halloween events include treat stations for little goblins throughout the zoo. Children can chat with keepers and learn how they care for the animals during the Creepy Creature Chats. Visitors can head to the African Journey picnic pavilions for an interactive straw maze and holiday games, or complete the Scavenger Haunt, or join the DJ in the Australian plaza for family-friendly dance party from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. each weekend.
Children are encouraged to wear costumes and bring their own treat bag. The zoo is decorated for the holiday and features several photo spots where guests can take their own pictures.
All treats offered at the Wild Zoo Halloween are palm-oil free or are manufactured by companies that are members of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil. In a news release, the zoo explained, “The sustainable production of palm oil is crucial to the survival of orangutans, because their rain forest habitat is often destroyed to create poorly managed and unsustainable palm oil plantations.”
Though Wild Zoo Halloween is free with paid zoo admission or zoo membership, additional fees are charged for the Z.O.&O. Railroad, Endangered Species Carousel, Crocodile Creek Adventure Ride and Ski Safari. Weather permitting, animal experiences including Pony Trail, stingray feeding, giraffe feeding and goat feeding will be available for a fee. Concessions will be open for food and drink purchases.
