Fort Wayne Police on Thursday reported the city's second suicide in one week. The department urged anyone with mental health issues to contact the police for assistance.

The police statement issued at 10:09 a.m. July 30 follows a 7:45 a.m. report from the 4000 block of Willshire Court.

Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute involving a firearm. A family member reported that an adult male left the home with a gun in his hand and they were concerned he was having mental health issues.

Officers located a vehicle matching the description given by the family a short time later in the area of Maplecrest Road and Brian Drive. "Officers initiated a traffic stop to speak with the man and just prior to making contact, he shot himself in the head," the department said.

"Sadly, this is the second suicide this week," police said. "We again would encourage anyone who is having mental health issues, or who knows a family member that is having mental health issues to reach out for help. Please call 911 as our officers are specially trained to deal with these issues or to guide you in the right direction to resources in our community."
