Carroll senior wins scholarship

Ella Miller of Fort Wayne has been awarded one of two 2020 Legacy Scholarships from the Hoosier State Press Association. Ella will graduate from Carroll High School and will study music education at Anderson University. Ella is the daughter of Cory and Brooke Miller of Fort Wayne. Cory is a partner of Elevatus Architecture. Ella is the granddaughter of Mark Miller. Mark is the opinion page editor for the Bluffton News-Banner, and also has served as president, publisher, editor, ad sales, ad manager and general manager in a 45-year newspaper career. Indiana newspapers do so much for their communities, the HSPA Foundation board of directors decided to give something back to the dedicated families that make real news happen, said Stephen Key, executive director and general counsel for the HSPA. A panel of retired Indiana newspaper publishers selected this year’s two winners. Also earning a Legacy Scholarship is Elle O’Bannon of Floyds Knob, the daughter of Jon and Soni O’Bannon. Jon has been the publisher of The Corydon Democrat and Clarion News for 16 years and been involved with the family’s newspaper operation for more than 30 years. Soni has been the newspaper’s chief operating officer for 15 years. Elle will graduate from Our Lady of Providence High School and will study business management/law and ethics in the Kelly School of Business at Indiana University in Bloomington.
